What the scheme is designed to do

  • Support residential rooftop solar installation.
  • Provide Central Financial Assistance to eligible residential consumers under the applicable rules.
  • Use a National Portal/DISCOM-based process for applications and implementation.
  • Support the expansion of distributed solar generation across households.
  • Help eligible households reduce electricity costs through solar generation.

Important to understand

“Up to 300 units” is a scheme objective/benefit framing and does not mean every household automatically receives 300 free units every month.

Actual solar generation depends on system capacity, sunlight, roof conditions, equipment performance, electricity consumption and applicable metering arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PM Surya Ghar scheme still active?

The residential CFA operational guidelines state an implementation period up to March 31, 2027. Customers should check the current official portal and applicable DISCOM process for the status of applications and requirements.

What is the maximum residential subsidy?

The published residential CFA structure provides ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 per kW for the additional capacity up to 3 kW, resulting in a maximum of ₹78,000 under that structure.

Does a 3 kW solar system always receive ₹78,000?

No. The amount is a maximum under the published structure for eligible residential consumers. Actual eligibility and CFA depend on the applicable scheme conditions and successful completion of the required process.

Does PM Surya Ghar guarantee a zero electricity bill?

No. Electricity bills depend on consumption, solar generation, tariff, metering arrangements, fixed charges and other applicable factors.

Who approves the subsidy?

The applicable government/National Portal/DISCOM process determines eligibility, verification and CFA release. A vendor can assist with the process but does not itself approve government CFA.
